Description:

Archipelago Marine Research Ltd., established in 1978, is a Victoria-based consulting firm specializing in national and international commercial fisheries monitoring and marine environmental assessment services. Archipelago is a recognized world leader in the development and delivery of fisheries monitoring programs and monitoring technology.

Reporting to the Human Resources (HR) Manager, the HR Assistant is responsible for providing administrative support to the day to day operations of the HR Division while providing professional confidential support and information to staff regarding HR related issues. This is a part time position based on approximately 22 hours per week, 5 days per week Monday through Friday.

 
Duties:

  • Provide general administrative support to the HR Division including; preparing correspondence, arranging meetings and travel, processing confidential reports, filing, and maintaining database and policy manuals
  • Assist with the recruitment and selection process by creating and maintaining online job postings and advertisements, screening resumes and candidates, coordinating interview schedules, creating job descriptions and preparing offer of employment letters
  • Administer the Group benefits plan and liaising with employees and benefit providers to address questions or concerns
  • Coordinate and process Worksafe BC claims
  • Participation on various committees

 
Qualifications:

  • Post secondary degree in a related field or HR diploma/certification
  • HR experience and knowledge of general best practices and employment legislation
  • Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including conflict resolution and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Highly organized, self-motivated with the ability to set priorities and make sound decisions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills – comfortable preparing documents, delivering presentations, building rapport and making calls to vendors, employees and candidates
  • Strong service orientation, an understanding and appreciation of the employee’s requirements
  • Attention to detail with the ability to follow through and deliver results in a timely manner
  • Strong computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook, and basic proficiency of MS Access
  • Working knowledge of an HRIS application, Corel Draw and MS Publisher an asset
